Extremely Rare Woodpecker Rediscovered
This bird has been in hiding for many years. Some reports have said the woodpecker hasn't been seen since the 1880's.
April 28, 2005— One of the world's largest, most beautiful and most legendary woodpeckers may not be extinct after all, say ornithologists studying startling new video evidence from Arkansas of the long-lost ivory-billed woodpecker in Arkansas.The journal Science surprised the world Thursday morning with the sudden announcement of the first solid evidence since 1944 that the species still survives in the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas.
